Buy A Digital Camera

After taking a very long time to set up the camera I was excited to try it out. Imagine my surprise when I found that I only had part of the viewing screen. Both sides and on the bottom are just black. I tried to take a couple of test pictures and when they were printed out it was the same, the area on the sides and bottom are empty. This does not seem to be happening in video mode. Has anyone else experienced this? I can find nothing in the on line manual that helps me with this problem. I have an e-mail into tech support but being the weekend I have yet to hear back from them. Also I have had problems with the conflict of settings message. I can not turn on the digital zoom with any setting I have tried. I plan on returning this camera in the morning. Although I imagaine that I have a defective camera I think I will stick with my Fuji 18x zoom until these new 30x cameras are perfected. Unless someone has a suggestion on a GOOD high zoom camera.

I was so excited to get this. I first saw it from a T.V. retailer and ordered it on wait list. My old point and shoot was only 2 years old but I was starting to see the quality of photos and videos degrade. I was especially excited that this Olympus had high-def video too! I was all in! Then next day I saw it here at Amaazon for bout 40 bucks cheaper (inclusive). I quickly canned the wait list and grabbed it here at Amazon. In hindsight I wish I had shelled out the extra 40 for the option of an easy return. The seller I got it from here charges a restocking fee, opps…my bad. I’m not one to just give away money like that so I keep it.

No major complaints about the camera but after having a compact point and shoot this bulky “slr style” is well…cramping my style. Where am I gonna put it in my purse? And a camera bag? That’s so “90′s” lol.

Yes the video capabilities is improved (which I like)! The wind noise is extreme outdoors however. The zoom is pretty amazing (when I keep it steady). The regular photos are a crap shoot, sometime good sometime not, even with flash up it is spotty. For these reasons I think I would just be happier with a compact “point and shoot style camera” with HD video. In fact less than a week later ANOTHER t.v. retailer was pushing one 100 dolla cheaper than the olympus and it was cuter too but I’m stuck with what I have. Maybe I’m just a commitment phob…Oh well’s either way I still have a good camera, just have to take the time to get the settings right (translation-read manuel) and get used to lugging it around. It’s not love at first, but with work I could learn to love it…(translation-I HAVE NO CHOICE)!!
